Northwest Science: Journal Editor Outreach

The Northwest Scientific Association is recruiting applications for the position of Chief Editor of Northwest Science. Northwest Science is a quarterly journal publishing scientific studies representing natural and physical science research conducted in the Pacific Northwest, including Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, western Montana, northern California, and western Canada. Northwest Science has been in continuous publication since 1927 and provides an important outlet for scientific work relevant to the Pacific Northwest.

Basic responsibilities of the Chief Editor include:

  • Orchestrating the workflow involved with publishing approximately six scientific papers per issue, aided by electronic submittal management software
  • Serving on the Board of Directors of the Northwest Scientific Association
  • Providing a written annual report describing status of the journal
  • Recruiting Associate Editors as needed

Basic qualifications of the Chief Editor include:

  • An established record of scientific publications
  • A breadth of scientific knowledge
  • Good communication skills
  • Availability of an average of eight hours per week to devote to the journal
  • Appreciation of the value and opportunity afforded by a regional journal
  • Past or current membership in NWSA

The Chief Editor position is unpaid, however, the Editor will receive complimentary membership in the Northwest Scientific Association, free registration at the annual meetings, as well as recognition by the association and the scientific community.
